Emergency Medicine
Sometimes health emergencies happen. Maybe it's in the form of an injury, or a heart attack, a dangerously high fever or an accident. When Emergency treatment is needed, we're here to help. The Emergency Department of Fulton County Health Center has treated individuals, young and old, with all types of health conditions. In fact, more than 13,000 patients passed through our Emergency Department last year.
When a patient arrives in our Emergency Room, a physical assessment and a medical history is completed on each patient by the Emergency Room staff and the ER physician.
Each and every day our Emergency Department provides many services. Whether a patient comes with chest pain, respiratory and gastro intestinal illnesses, lacerations, or trauma, our Emergency Room staff is prepared to give you quality emergency care. All our RN's are ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified. All LPN's are PALS and IV Therapy certified. In addition many RN's have taken the Trauma Nurse Core Course and have attended/audited the ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) course at MCO to further meet the demands of emergency care. Our Unit is staffed with a physician 24 hours a day seven days a week. In the evenings we have a second physician from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.
Other services we offer are:
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) for 1-on-1 assessments (1st area hospital to offer this program)
  • FulCare Occupational Medicine office providing follow-up care for Workers' Compensation and industrial patients
Many patients who come to our ER need only short term care. Most are discharged with treatment recommendations and prescriptions to help their recovery. When the emergency is more serious we can offer state of the art emergency care. When needed, cardiac monitoring is provided at bedside with a central monitor in nurse's station allowing continuous surveillance of the patient when needed. If however a patient's condition warrants a higher level of care than we can provide, we can make referrals to tertiary care hospitals when necessary.
